Skeleton oil seal material and speed/temperature, how to choose oil seal material
As the main body of the skeleton oil seal, rubber is particularly important in selection, which directly affects the performance and working
state of the skeleton oil seal. When choosing which material to use to make the skeleton oil seal, many factors need to be considered, such
as:
working temperature, pressure, line speed, medium, etc. The process flow used by different rubbers is different, so it is necessary to consider which production process is used to make the skeleton oil seal, although many mainstream rubbers can be used to make the skeleton oil seal (such as: nitrile rubber, acrylic, fluorine rubber, silicone rubber) etc.), but still follow the following points when choosing:
1. The maximum actual temperature of the working environment.
It is the working ambient temperature of the skeleton oil seal.
2. The minimum operating temperature during work.
When the temperature is low, the rubber will become hard and brittle, and the resilience will become smaller. The oil seal lip will increase the holding force of the shaft center and increase the friction. However, after the shaft rotates, the friction heat-generating skeleton will increase due to the increased holding force. The lip of the oil seal will gradually return to its original elasticity, so the skeleton oil seal can still operate normally under the brittleness of rubber at low temperature or when the temperature is forced to be lower, provided that the rotational speed of the shaft is high.
3. The effect of shaft speed on the material of the skeleton oil seal.
Shaft speed is an important factor for the selection of skeleton oil seal material, because too high shaft speed will generate heat due to friction with the lip. The temperature will accelerate the aging of the rubber lip and shorten the service life of the skeleton oil seal.
4. Select the oil seal material according to the sealing medium.
Different oil seal materials need to be selected to seal different media. First, it can prevent the medium component of the rubber from fouling and burning the medium, and second, it can prevent the medium from eroding the oil seal material.
5. Select the skeleton oil seal material according to the working state.
According to the working state, oil seals can be divided into reciprocating oil seals and rotary skeleton oil seals. The rotary type is generally used in mechanical shaft seals, and the reciprocating type is generally used in rod seals. The materials selected for different sealing methods are also different.
In fact, when choosing the oil seal material, the above points can not only be viewed from one point, but must be considered from multiple aspects, and the appropriate skeleton oil seal material should be selected by taking all factors into consideration.
The speed of the general skeleton oil seal is related to the shape and pressure of the skeleton oil seal design. The maximum design speed of the general rubber oil seal is about 15 m/s, and the maximum speed of the PTFE lip seal rotary oil seal is 30 m/s. In addition, the oil seal The higher the pressure during rotating work, the lower the rotation speed correspondingly, the higher or lower the temperature will also affect the rotation speed and life of the oil seal.
