Soft metal seals play a crucial role as high-pressure gas and liquid circuit joints in engines. They are indispensable components that ensure proper functioning of the engine.

Sealing Mechanism of Soft Metal Seals:

The sealing process of soft metal seals involves several stages. Initially, the gasket undergoes a plastic phase and exhibits creeping behavior. This is followed by the appearance of the first stress plateau, after which the stress rapidly increases, entering a hardened state. Simultaneously, the material in the sealing groove starts to exhibit creep behavior and fills the joint's seal. This leads to the appearance of a second stress platform on the sealing surface. As the load increases, the sealing groove is gradually filled, resulting in a rapid increase in stress and entering the hardening stage for the second time. As the internal pressure of the pipeline increases during operation, the axial pre-tightening force balances, gradually reducing the stress on the gasket.

Sealing Mechanism of Soft Metal Seals:

As the axial compression force provided by the thread increases, the soft metal seal is compressed and gradually fills the convex step joint. The sealing surface of the concave step joint has a slight convex and concave shape, which allows for a large range of elastoplastic deformation. The seal wedges into the V-shaped sealing groove of the joint, creating resistance to the medium and ensuring that the sealing surface withstands a higher pressure than the pressure difference between the two sides, thus achieving a reliable seal.

Working Characteristics of Soft Metal Seals:

Good Processability: Soft metal seals are highly processable and offer excellent anti-vibration performance. They can withstand a wide temperature range, functioning reliably in temperatures ranging from -190 degrees Celsius to +500 degrees Celsius.

High Stress Resistance: Under a pipeline internal pressure of 45 MPa, the maximum stress of a soft metal seal reaches 875 MPa. After compression and deformation, the gasket enters the sealing groove, distributing the contact stress evenly and exceeding 300 MPa at the sealing point. The sealing safety factor is greater than 1.67.

With their advantageous processability, temperature resistance, and high stress resistance, soft metal seals demonstrate excellent performance in various applications. They provide reliable sealing solutions for engines and ensure the efficient operation of high-pressure gas and liquid circuits.
