Back-up rings are the most common anti-extrusion devices employed in dynamic and static sealing, designed to prevent the migration of sealing material into the extrusion gap under the system pressure. Parker offers a wide range of back-up ring geometries and materials to suit every seal type and appliC-A-Tion. They are open or closed shapes for snap assembly made of a broad range of compounds which are highly resistant to thermal or mechanical stress. Parker back-up rings help reduce costly downtime and ensure long-term functional reliability.

When using seals, if the extrusion gap for the use pressure is large, the root of the seal may be extruded and cause damage. At the same time, it is necessary to have a retaining ring that inhibits the extrusion of the seal and improves the durability to increase the service life of the seal. However, the selection of the material of the retaining ring requires material characteristics that are easy to compress and deform when pressurized and difficult to be extruded. In addition, during compression deformation, it moves due to contact with the opposed sliding surface, so wear resistance and low friction characteristics are also important. Taking the above points into consideration, has prepared two materials, namely, polytetrafluoroethylene resin and polyamide resin, which are engineering plastics. At present, the commonly used retaining ring models are: BRT2, BTR3, BRN2, BRN3, BRL, which can effectively prevent the extrusion of the seal and improve the pressure resistance of the seal.
